Cumulative Environmental Effects: Past, Present and Future 

The 2011 CPANS conference will provide a unique opportunity to learn the latest information on Alberta Oil Sands’ environmental challenges         
and solutions that include government initiatives and frameworks, tailings ponds and reclamation, air quality,  water quality and quantity, climate change, outreach programs and technologies, and monitoring.

Cumulative effects are changes to the environment caused by the combination of past, present and ‘reasonably foreseeable’ future activities. The assessment and management of cumulative environmental effects present real challenges to communities, government agencies, industry, academics and consultants.

 

The 2012 CPANS Spring conference will provide a unique opportunity to learn the latest information on the cumulative environmental effects that include air and climate, drinking water, surface water and ground water, ecosystems and landscape ecology, pollution prevention, waste management and emergency response, pollutant fate and transport, human exposure, toxicology and risk assessment, socio-economic, assessment and management process, regulatory and policy frameworks, issues and lessons, ecosystem components and indicators, integrated environmental modeling and monitoring, and integrated earth observations.

Call for Speakers-Abstract Submission

Submission deadline:  February 29 2012 

We are looking for accomplished speakers willing to share their knowledge, experience and skills to a diverse group of delegates from across Canada. Delegates attending the conference will include people with communities, government agencies, industry, academics, consultants and people who want to make a difference.

 
Student Poster Competition

 

Posters are an effective way of sharing cartographic work in progress, showcasing community involvement, and demonstrating experiments with new technologies. All student posters submitted to the competition will be displayed at the 2012 CPANS Spring Conference. We appreciate advance registration so we can reserve display space for your poster. However, posters should be brought to the conference.

 

There will be two winners which will be awarded $250 (first prize) and $100 (second prize). Two runner-ups will receive an honorable mention award. CPANS meeting attendees will vote on entries and the winners will be announced at the conference. Other non-cash award honorable mentions may be given at the discretion of the conference chair. Posters are to be no larger than 36" x 48".  

 

Call for Exhibitors

 

CPANS is now accepting applicants for exhibits for the conference! Come join us with an exhibit and show off your company’s services and products to a wide audience, including government, industry, NGOs, and consultants.

 An Exhibitor’s basic fee is $600, which includes the following: 

1.   One 8’x10’ exhibit space;

2.   One skirted 6’ long table;

3.   One extension power cord; and

4.   One free registration pass for Conference attendance.
