Calgary February Luncheon 2012

Event date: 2012-02-15

The CPANS technical luncheon presentation for February will be :

Geothermal Energy Potential in Canada

Of all the renewable resources, geothermal has some of the most significant potential to supply stable base-load power.  Although used extensively throughout the world, geothermal energy has not been significantly developed in Canada to date.  Despite this, Canada has huge geothermal energy reserves that could play an important role in the transition to a ‘clean energy’ economy.  Recent work has examined historic data to allow a national-scale assessment of high potential geothermal areas in Canada that are best suited for exploration, as well as to examine geoscience, technological and regulatory barriers exist that hinder geothermal development.  This presentation will provide an overview of the various geothermal energy resources and potential uses in Canada, as well as the role of geoscience in geothermal development.
